5th Annual Michigan Young Innovators Competition

Our mission: The Michigan Young Innovators Competition promotes innovation and creativity in young people by motivating them to solve problems and improve upon the things around them. In doing so, we hope these students will connect with their peers, families, educators, and local businesses to learn how these resources can help them solve bigger problems and challenges.

The challenge: To create a presentation describing an innovative product, business, or social innovation. The idea can also include an improvement upon an existing product, business, or social innovation.

Important dates: Entry submission will begin at 12:01 AM EST on Sunday, December 1, 2013. All submission entries are due by 11:59 PM EST on Friday, January 31, 2014. Winners will be notified on or before February 21, 2014 (during National Entrepreneurship Week).

The format: We want students to submit their ideas in the creative format of their choice! This can be anything from a video pitch to a Prezi presentation to an audio recording - however they can best explain and illustrate their ideas! The creativity of their ideas as well as their method of delivery will be taken into account, so we are looking for out-of-the-box thinking!

The submissions: Submissions that will do well in this competition will include elements of feasibility, innovativeness, social consciousness, presentation creativity, and presentation clarity.  View a list of last year's winning submissions here!

These students must attend an accredited public or private school, charter school, or home school and must reside within the State of Michigan. Students are allowed to submit as a team or club.

In addition to cash prizes, Prima Civitas (the competition organizer) will work with students who are interested in pursuing their ideas throughout 2014.

Judging: All eligible submissions undergo a preliminary judging round. 10 entries will move on to the final judging round.
